The capital city of Bangladesh and known the world over as the city of
mosques and muslin, Dhaka has grown into a bustling city of about seven
million people with an area of about 815 sq km. Dhaka has fast developed
as a modern city and achieves a happy blend of the old and the new.
Motijheel is the main commercial centre of the city whilst Dhaka’s major
waterfront Sadarghat is on the bank of the river Buriganga and is crowded
with all kinds of boats, paddle-streamers and fishermens’ boats all
bustling with frenetic activity. Colourful rickshaws on the city’s streets
are seen everywhere.
